3/21/2024 0 Comments Farming forgotten souls season 12I'm playing Thorns/Upheaval Barb with no guide and I'm easily clearing lvl 100 enemies at lvl 78, and I haven't even gotten a Razorplate.įorgotten souls feel like they're paced fine for upgrading items. Everything works with everything else no issue. I really have to say, what's with people needing to reroll items dozens of times this season? Sure, last season was painfully difficult and the only stats that mattered were crit and vuln, but this season is painfully easy. Either way, purely RNG systems are flawed, and part of good game designs is simultaneously offering the fun of the unexpected but offering a choice for the predictable. Maybe it's crafting, maybe it's something as unremarkable as D3's solution of Haedrig's Gift (full set upon completing the season journey). Now, we have targeted farms, but they're ultimately still a layer of RNG. Players had basically written off the possibility entirely, and it might as well not exist. The chances were so abysmally low that the only time you heard about someone getting one was due to a bug. We saw this with the Uber Unique drop rates. Too easy, and no one engages with the RNG, but too difficult and it might as well not be there. The idea is that you should have a long think about how many failures you want the player to experience before you give them what they want, and then consider the effect it will have on player morale. Overpower has it with guaranteed procs, as an example. On the topic of RNG, every layer of RNG should have some way to reduce it to a guaranteed success. I don't really have a solution, other than giving players the freedom to play at their leisure. Maybe you do what Lost Ark does, where you have a finite number of attempts per time period and then your drop rates are reduced to keep from having an influx or overabundance of some item/material. Much like how I dislike pure RNG systems, because there is a statistical probability greater than zero that at least one person will never "win", whether that be a chance at drops or what have you. That said, I still think time-gating content is a bad choice, because there will inevitably be someone who gets left out. Hell, even crafting services, boss carries, w/e, people in PoE are willing to sell it for the right items. If you have the currency to afford what people sell it for, there's almost nothing you can't buy. This is one thing that PoE does exceptionally well: if there's something you can't do, or don't want to do, trade for what you need.
