![]() ![]() Gullfaks C was the first of these installations to feature an integrated concrete skirt, which thereby formed an extension of the cylindrical cell above and naturally had to cope with the loads placed on it.īut questions were posed from certain quarters about the suitability and strength of these skirts, including a British consultant who warned Gullfaks C operator Statoil against them. The steel skirts are suitable for sandy soils. ![]() It surrounded and enclosed the weakest top layer of clay and transferred the load to deeper and more stable levels.Ĭlay also has a tensile strength which can help to counter the burden of short-term loads such as breaking waves.Ī steel skirt had been incorporated beneath the storage cells on a number of earlier Condeep concrete platforms to ensure stability. Den frie tanke : Om kreativ frihet og en ledende norsk ingeniør. Olav Olsen, Norway’s leading expert on shell structures, regarded the skirt pile as a tool for overcoming this problem. ĬO 2 injection has been rejected.Where seabed soil strength was also weaker – on soft clays, for example – the foundation challenge became fairly considerable. Gas injection and water injection are used to increase production. New production wells are currently being drilled and more is being considered to increase output. The oil spilled was in such a small amount that much of it evaporated before being contained. The oil being loaded into the Navion Scandia tanker was spilled when the pipeline pressure became too high. In January 2008, a small amount of oil was spilled after a pipe broke while loading a tanker. In 2003 it was sold to Russia and installed on the ship Ispolin for drilling in the Russian sector of the Caspian Spills In January 1997 it was decided to dispense with the maintenance-intensive drilling package on the Draugen platform because the well programme had been completed. The Asgard transport pipeline is used for transport of natural gas to Kårstø. Oil transport is accomplished through tanker via floating buoy. The platform consists of a concrete monocolumn with integrated deck. They are all producing reservoirs with good characteristics. The major reservoir is the Rogn Formation, a shallow marine sand bar of the Late Jurassic at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft), while on the western side of the field is the Garn Formation of the Middle Jurassic. Īdditional resources in the Garn Vest structure came on stream in December 2001, while development of additional resources at the Rogn Sør structure were approved in the spring of 2001, coming on stream in January 2003. The field has six subsea water injection wells. The Garn Vest and Rogn Sør deposits have been developed with a total of five subsea wells connected to the main facility at Draugen. Two flowlines connect the facility to a floating loading buoy. Stabilized oil is stored in tanks in the base of the facility. The field has been developed with a concrete fixed facility and integrated topside. It has been operating by A/S Norske Shell until sold to AS OKEA in 2018.
